Why do you do what you do? About the importance of purpose in business and life

Updated: Mar 25, 2019

Today, I want to share some Marketing & Sales insights with you that also apply to our personal lives and have helped me a lot in my entrepreneurial endeavors.

When someone asks you what you do, answer why you do it.

This is much more powerful because people want to buy stories and values, not products and services. The reason being that this speaks directly to their emotional brain where the final purchasing decision takes place. Now, this type of psychological advise for marketing is of course the reason why Marketing and Advertising have such a bad rep.

I would argue though that we all have to make money and if you are selling a service or product that doesn't harm people or the environment or even helps improve them, there 's nothing wrong anymore about taking strategic Marketing decisions, right?

Start your purpose-led journey today

To make sure this is the case, we urge you to take our Honest Marketing Pledge at our Social Impact Communications Boutique . It will not only guide you through the principles of responsible Marketing and hold you accountable to them, it will also make you feel better about an inevitable part of business that we often dread: Sales & Marketing.

If you don't know where to start your purpose-led journey, take a beautiful notebook, go out into nature and start brainstorming about your WHY – for your project, your business or an area of your personal life. The WHY will connect you to your purpose and purpose in return will connect you to your audience and consumers. Treat your quest for the WHY as a process, don't expect immediate clarity and feel free to adapt your answer as you go along. Feel free to use our Sisterhood Facebook Group to reach out to others and see how they like your WHY.

Much love,
